A

Access Control

- A security system which allows an administrator to restrict entry to an enclosed area. Entry is most often given through security cards.

Alarm

- This security device is usually set off by a triggered sensor. It alerts about a security breach or a safety hazard.

B

Burglar

- A criminal who obtains unauthorized entry to an area and steals items of value.

C

Carbon Monoxide Detector

- Also called a CO detector,  this device senses the poisonous gas carbon monoxide.

CCTV

- Closed-circuit television. A surveillance system that uses video cameras that send information to a secure monitoring location.

Control Panels

- The center of every Security System, control panels monitor input from each sensor, camera, and other peripheral equipment. The control panels supplies energy and information to your enture system to that it is always in sync.

D

Digital Recorders

- A device that accepts analog video input and records it in digital format to its hard disk. DVRs are used for security-related and entertainment-related applications. The process can be controlled by a DVR service provider or it can be a self-contained system and managed by the user. The security-related DVR offers some sophisticated features and capabilities unmatched by its VCR-based counterpart.

E

Environmental Devices

- Scientific instrumentation specializing in real-time monitoring of airborne particulates, some of these instruments include Carbon Monoxide Detectors, Low Temperature Devices, and Water Devices.

F

Fire Alarm System Inspection

- Most system manufacturers recommend at least one full annual test and inspection after initial installation and acceptance. Various agencies, organizations, and local authorities recommend, and in some cases, mandate, testing intervals. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) provides the National Fire Alarm Code, NFPA 72. This standard deals with the application, installation, performance, and maintenance of protective signaling systems and their components.

Fire Detector

- A device that detects smoke indicative of fire and tramsmits an alert signal to the fire alarm system.

G

General Packet Radio Services (GPRS)

- A packet-based wireless communication service that promises data rates from 56 up to 114 Kbps and continuous connection to the Internet for mobile phone and computer users. The higher data rates allow users to take part in video conferences and interact with multimedia Web sites and similar applications using mobile handheld devices as well as notebook computers. GPRS is based on Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication and complements existing services such circuit-switched cellular phone connections and the Short Message Service (SMS).

Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM)

- A digital mobile telephony system that is widely used in Europe and other parts of the world. GSM uses a variation of time division multiple access (TDMA) and is the most widely used of the three digital wireless telephony technologies (TDMA, GSM, and CDMA). GSM digitizes and compresses data, then sends it down a channel with two other streams of user data, each in its own time slot. It operates at either the 900 MHz or 1800 MHz frequency band.

I

Intelligent Analytics

- Intelligent Analytics enables enhanced security and surveillance by monitoring video for specific people, vehicles, objects, and their associated behavior within a camera view. This system can provide real time alarms based on user defined rules to detect abnormal or suspicious behavior without the need for human supervision.

K

Keypad

- The device by which humans interact with their security system. Alarms can be activiated and deactivated using a keypad. Other administration can be set using the keypad as well.

L

Low Temp Devices

- When the temperature drops below freezing in your home or office, pipes can crack or burst, which can end up costing you thousands of dollars in repairs. The Low Temp Device will safeguards your home or business, sending a signal at the first signs of freezing temperatures.

M

Medipendant

- Medipendant offers unique and secure care by allowing you to speak through the device on your body rather than having to worry about getting to a speaker on the wall. Medipendant is perfect for those who are less mobile or have chronic medical conditions.

Monitoring

- A device or team of security professionals that observe, detect, and record the operation of a business or home to ensure it's saftey, deter theft and monitor for emergency situations.

Motion Detector

- A security device whose main element is a sensor that identifies movement and sends a signal to the alarm system.

P

Panels (Fire Control)

- This equipment is the center of an alarm system. It receives information from sensors and sets off alarms.

R

RFID Systems

- Radio Frequency Identification Systems operate on radio frequncy based access.

S

Security

- Our #1 priority at Alert Alarm Hawaii, security is strong protection against healthy and safety hazards such as intruders, burglars, fire, and other dangers. It is also an awareness of the activity in and around a certain area.

Security System

- An electrical device that sets off an alarm when someone tries to break in.

Sensors

- A mechanical device sensitive to light, temperature, radiation level, or the like, that transmits a signal to a measuring or control security.

Short Message Service (SMS)

- Commonly referred to as "text messaging," is a service for sending short messages of up to 160 characters (224 characters if using a 5-bit mode) to mobile devices, including cellular phones, smartphones and PDAs.

Smoke Detector

- A device that detects smoke indicative of fire and tramsmits an alert signal to the fire alarm system.

T

Total Connect

- Total Connect utilizes the Internet, PDAs, cell phones and other web-enabled devices to control your security system and receive information remotely, and our Video Services option allows you to keep a close eye on your home and family from any remote location with Internet access.

W

Water Devices

- A water sensor device will notify your monitoring center if there us a problem with a broken water line or water heater that can cause serious damage.
